How to Organize Your Jewelry...

There are so many fun ways to display jewelry. Doing this uses more of your imagination than anything else!

For Bracelets:
Counter top paper towel rods are great if you want them stacked and takes up less space. If you have more space, the velvet bracelet racks are great so you can really see all the bracelets you have!

For Necklaces:

Tack them up on pretty cork boards is a great way to showcase your necklaces and/or earrings, but if you want them separate, a hooked tie rack for the wall is my favorite!

For Rings:
Use a small decorative bowl for rings if you have a large collection. If you only have a select few favorites, you can get cute acrylic rings holders on amazon.

All-In-One Jewelry Holder:
Container Store and Amazon have great jewelry holders that you can hang on your door, in your closet, or on a hook in your wall! These are especially great for earrings. You can keep them in pairs and see what you have!

Great Fashion & Networking at the Woman's Club!

Last Tuesday, February 12th, I hosted a Fashion and Networking Cocktail Event at the Woman's Club of White Plains.

Heather Adessa, Noel D'Allacco, Marcella Milio

It was a great low key night of shopping, mingling with new and old faces, while also getting a chance to hear about the upcoming Spring 2013 Fashion Trends. Over 30 women came together to spend a few hours out of the house.

Marcella Milio of Vestiti by Marcella spoke about spring trends in clothing, Noel D'Allacco of OperationPROM spoke about jewelry trends and I spoke about the hair and makeup trends of the upcoming season, on behalf of my business Makeup by Heather A.

All of our guests received a swag bag with different products and gift certificates from local vendors and businesses, and also had the change to win a few different door prizes, which included jewelry, makeup application gift certificates and more!

Each seat and their Swag Bags

Many of the woman's club members donated refreshments including cupcakes, muffins, chips, cheese and crackers, fruit, wine, soda, water and a delicious rum punch (that I wish I had some to drink now!)

Giuliana's Jewels of New Jersey came and displayed 3 tables of amazing jewelry at great prices - everyone found something for themselves or as a gift!

Looking forward to hosting the next one! Stay tuned for updates and save-the-dates!

DIY: A Stunning Summer Glow!

Just by looking out the window, or walking down the street, you can tell that summer is upon us! Shorter sleeves, amazing sandals, and bronzer skin!

Here are 4 quick steps to get to that bronzy glow in minutes!

1.  Start off with a freshly cleansed face, then apply a base of tinted moisturizer and a dusting of translucent powder on your forhead and nose to minimize shine.

2.  Next, take a large face brush and apply bronzing powder on the temples, forehead, under the cheekhones and under the chin - for contouring.

3.  For subtle, yet sultry, eyes, apply gold or bronze shadows on the lid only, or as liner. Then mascara for long lashes.

4.  For this sun kissed, bronzed look, you want to keep the lips neutral - so a warm toned gloss is the way to go

*Friday Favorites* ~ April 20, 2012

Back from being MIA  - here are some new favorites to try out this weekend!!!

Peach is my New Pink!
Check out below all the great ways to add a hint of Peach to your look for Spring/Summer!

1. Peach Blush

LOVE IT! Peach is the new Pink for Spring! You don't have to use a orange blush to get that peachy glow! Peaches by MAC is my new best friend, it adds a sun kissed glow, yet doesn't overpower my face for a subtle day look.
$15 maccosmetics.com

2. Peach Lip Gloss

I do not leave home without my Chanel Rouge Allure Gloss in Genie. The sponge applicator tip glides the product on smoothly. This is a great way to wear a coral/peach tone on the lips. It is not too much color, so can be used as almost a nude tone - however it immediately brightens up the face!
$32 chanel.com

3. Peach on the Eyes

While you can always use blush on your eyes, and vice-a-versa, there are a few tones that you may want to add to your makeup bag - or your makeup table (if you have as much as me). Bobbi Brown has 2 great colors - Nude Peach and Gold Peach - the difference? Nude Peach is a matte peach shade, while Gold Peach has a shimmer to it. Both are amazing. Use on the lid, or line the outer part of your eyes with the tones for a more fun look! (you can even use them as or over your blush!)
$21each bobbibrowncosmetics.com

Well, we've done eyes, lips and cheeks - how about peach as an accent piece for an outfit?

4. Peach Clutch

You want to add a hint of color to your outfit, but don't feel you can pull of something super bold? How about a peach colored clutch? It's almost nude and adding that spring-summer fun color to any outfit, makes it more fun! An accessory as simple as this can also be found at stores for any person's budget! Forever 21 has great products, all the way up to BCBG and beyond!

of course...let's now talk about food!

5. Peaches Soaked in Red Wine YUM (Peach Cobbler is great too if you're Under 21)

Need I say more about this? You can even take them out of the glass after they have soaked and mix them with other fruits - or you can soak all the fruits together!
Peach Cobbler is another amazing dessert if you aren't into have wine with your peaches!
ENJOY!

How to be BOLD

Bold. One little word. One huge meaning.

If you follow fashion and trends of the season, you must have noticed that when a trend appears in the fashion world, it dips into each aspect of it:
1. makeup
2. clothes
3. shoes
4. accessories

Bold (and bright) colors are all the rage. Incorporating major color-blocking into your style, or a statement bold items, it the way to do it. For example, an all black outfit paired with a cobolt blue blazer, or bright green shoes. If your style is more subtle, you can still work in this trend, try adding the pop of color with a bright green or yellow clutch or bright colored bangle-bracelets.

If you are looking for one item to be your "bold" item..let these pieces guide you!

Some fun examples of color-blocking

If you are daring, maybe match that pop of color with your makeup. A bold green jacket would stand out even more with a green shadow, mascara or eyeliner. Emphasis in the word "or" - the goal is fashionista, not clown.

Example of a fun, bold - but not clownish - eye makeup

Doing a smokey eye has become more popular over the past few years, use navy blue instead of black or grey to really make those eye stand out!
*Remember - to keep your look classic, pair your bold eyes with a nude lip and a soft, yet strong, cheek.

*Note - just because bold colors and color-blocking is in - doesn't mean you can't go overboard. Look in the mirror before you leave your house - and if you don't own a mirror, but one! =)

If you are nervous about putting colors together but love the trend, try to keep colors that are in the same family. Such as: blues & greens, red, white & pinks, etc. you'll never go wrong. And also, everything looks nice with ivory or cream tones, so use those when you aren't sure.

*Friday Favorites*

Your *Friday Favorites* are here! Well, my favorites are below – hope they become your favorites too!

**I decided to switch it up a little bit, instead of just makeup and beauty products, I am going to incorporate some other of my favorites things – food, clothes and jewelry – and some other fun DIY crafts too!

Enjoy!

  1. Clinique Repair Wear Intensive Lip Treatment
Great for when those lips are super chapped, or you just want a little hydration and shine! This product is always in my bag! $22 clinique.com

  1. Rusk being sexy hairspray
This hairspray is what you want when you need extra hold but don't want crusty, hard hair! No one should want hard hair - yuck! I also love that this is a buildable hairspray, which means I can re-spray later in the day, and it doesn't feel heavy, sticky or stiff - yay!

  1. Colored Bangles

Colored anything is all the rage right now, so throw on a few colored bangles with your outfit - combine them with silver and gold bangles, or leather bracelets for a fun look! They are sold everywhere, so check out Claire's or Icing to see if you can get some cute ones for cheapies! I <3 a good deal!

    4.    Striped Nautical Blazer

This is my favorites of all my favorites this week. A striped blazer. How perfect. I got mine at Joyce Leslie, it was $24.99 and looks like a million bucks when styled correctly. Most stores have their version of a striped blazer out this season - go grab the one you love!

  1. Crayola Chalkboard Paint

This is a fun one! Chalkboard paint - how can it get better than that? Use it in the kitchen to create a space for your shopping list, add it to the kids playroom, but a square in your bedroom to put your reminders for yourself. It's "green" (bc you won't use as much paper), and it's fun! There are many brands that make this now that you can get it at almost any store that sells paint.

Trend Alert: *Curls, Curls, Curls*

My friend Alex (@AlexOppRD) asked, now you shall listen!

Soft curls are in - for day and for night (they are great for day/night transitioning). Larger or smaller, it doesn't matter, it's a flawless way to wear your hair that will never go out of style!

There are a few ways to achieve the end results you want, but you want to start with applying a little bit of hair oil and mousse to the hair after you towel dried it. This will help the curls hold better once the hair style is complete.

Rachel Zoe

If you are looking for Rachel Zoe-like hair - I recommend putting your hair in pigtail braids after applying the products. Then loosen the braids by pulling slightly some of the hair from the braid (not completely out, just enough to keep intact), so they aren't so perfect.
If you don't have time for them to air-dry, use the blow dryer to dry the braids. Once they are predominantly dry, take them apart and separate the hair, dry a little more using your fingers to detangle the hair. Then take a 1inch curling iron and make a few curls around the head to give it that messy look.

Christina Applegate

If you are looking for Christina Applegate-like curls - I recommend blow drying the hair almost straight with a round or paddle brush (if your hair is super curly - then completely straighten the hair), then use a 1.5-1.75inch curling iron to curl strands away from the face as well as add curls around the head. If it is easier, section the hair and curl the bottom layer first, while moving up the head.

Tip* Use a light hairspray, Sebastian Shaper Plus is my favorite, to hold curls while styling, then use a stronger hold once your are done to hold it in place - I like using Rusk w8less spray as the finishing spray.

*Friday Favorites*

Sorry I didn't get to last weeks favorites - hope you didn't cry! It just makes this weeks favorites more exciting! (well I think so anyway)

1. La Mer - Gel de La Mer
I know this is a little pricey, but it is just soooooo friggin good!!! My skin is always dry, so major hydration in my moisturizers is a must! Just because a moisturizer is hydrating doesn't mean I have to slather a whole glob all over my face to make it work. That's why I love this! I just got to try it a few weeks ago and I am still using my sample jar - go me! You need just a dime sized amount for your entire face. Good-Bye Dry Skin! $265 cremedelamer.com

2. Tocca - Graciella
OK, so I think you probably have noticed that I am obsessed with perfumes...definitely an addiction. This is my newest one. Tocca has a bunch of different scents, but I think this once stands above the rest. Perfect for spring, light yet noticeable. Check them all out for your favorite! $60 sephora.com

3. Perfect Nude Lip - MAC's Hug Me and Bare Necessity

I don't even know where to start! For a perfect nude lip - here you go! I use this combination on my brides when I need that perfect nude lip that will still show in photographs. I also wear it whenever I go out - the lipstick has just the right amount of pink and the gloss has the right amount of sparkles - even though there really are never too many sparkles, we all know that! $35/both maccosmetics.com

4. fresh - Sugar Lychee Body Lotion

Purchased this last week too. Great scent. Great amount of hydration. Not too heavy. Buy it! (They have other scents too) $22 sephora.com

5. C. Wonder

Now this..is amazing. It may look like a copy-cat of Tory Burch, BUT the pricing is more reasonable (however sale prices = GREAT), quality is comperable and selection is fantastic. Lot's of colors and patterns, yet there are still staple black and white pieces to choose from. The housewares depeartment is great as well. For a gift, or a gift for yourself - either way you will find something for almost anyone! Located in the Westchester Mall in White Plains, NY ~ SoHo, NY ~ Garden State Plaza Mall in Paramus, NJ

Fact vs. Fiction - Beauty Myths Revealed!

There are so many "Facts" that are thrown around - drinking tea metabolizes your food faster, drinking water will minimize fine lines & wrinkles, shine serum is the only way to make hair shiny - you'd have to do a lot of trial and error to figure out what is true and what's not.

Below I reveal some "facts" and how much truth really is in each statement - that way you don't have to do all the work ;)

1. Brushing your hair 100 times will make it it's shiniest - False
Brushing your hair that many times won't do anything but damage it more. For true shine, use a good conditioner and shine serum (if you hair can handle it). Brushing too often and too much will pull out hairs that aren't even ready to come out. Try to brush as little as possible and always use a wide tooth comb when hair is damp or wet to cause less breakage and pulling.

2. Drinking a lot of water will fill in lines & wrinkles - False
While this statement is not completely false, it isn't true. For your skin to look it's best, you do want to hydrate regularly by drinking water, as well as by hydrating your skin with the proper moisturizer, however it isn't going to take away all of those fine lines and wrinkles. Hydration is key, and what doesn't minimize, using a facial cream to plump up those lines will do the trick.

3. Shampoos and Conditioners will repair your split ends - False
While so many products say they will repair damaged hair and split ends, there is only so much a product could do. Split ends are due to over processing and heat damage to the hair, and the only way to completely get rid of them, is to cut them off. Try to minimize the amount of heat you use on your hair, and when you do, use a thermal protectant spray (it does help a little). Getting regular hair cuts helps keep split ends under control as well, and remember to use conditioner on your ends to help prevent damage.

4. Makeup never expires - False
Well, you should all know this from my blog a couple of weeks ago! Every makeup product has an expiration date. Products and the applicators you use, whether they be sponges or brushes, or even your fingers, carry bacteria that you are moving back and forth from your face to your makeup - yuck! Products such as mascara and liquid and cream foundations and concealers, last from one month to a year, while powder products can last up to two year, but either way, they all expire - so make a note to yourself!

5. Preparation H can help minimize bags under the eyes - True
Yay! Finally a True Statement!! I use this trick all the time. It doesn't make them disappear all together, but it does make the swelling go down enough that they can be concealed with a little bit of makeup. Yay for tricks that actually do work!
*If you know any "facts" and are curious if they are true,

What's Your Face Shape Got to Do With It? Everything!

Ever read articles in magazines where it tells you what's best for your "face shape"?

Ever sit back and think - "oh geez - is my face square or heart shaped?"(or something of that nature?)

Well, I'm here to Save the Day! (along with a little help from totalbeauty.com)

First, you need to start off with a photo of your face. It could be one you've taken of yourself with you iPhone, it doesn't matter, just try to have you hair not in your face, so you can see all of your features (including your ears).

Then, start to ask yourselves these questions:

1. Is the width and length of my face about the same, where the widest part is from ear to ear (sorta like a globe)?
If yes, your face is ROUND.

2. Is my face longer than it is wide?
If yes, then ask yourself:
Is it long and narrow with a narrow chin and/or higher forehead?
If yes, your face is OBLONG/RECTANGULAR.

3. Are my forehead and cheekbones wide, but my jaw narrow?
If yes, your face is HEART-shaped.

4. Is my forehead the same width as my jaw line and is my jaw prominent? Is my hairline squared off at my temples?
If yes, your face is SQUARE.

5. Is my jaw line wider than my forehead?
If yes, your face is DIAMOND - shaped.

6. Is my face approximately twice as long as it is wide? Is it only slightly narrower at the jaw than at the temples? Is my hairline rounded?
If yes, your face is OVAL.

Ok now you have a better idea of what face shape you are working with. Feel better? I hope so!

Now as a little bonus, since so many people ask me where to apply blush (and that really has to do with your face shape), below is a diagram that will help show you the correct placement for blush for you! (if you have a Diamond shape, go with the Oblong for blush)

Hope that was helpful! Face shapes have a lot to do with how you shape your eyebrows and what hairstyles looks best - especially when it comes to bangs - I let me know if you have more specific questions!

Spring 2012: What's In and What's Out!

Every magazine has their monthly "Do's and Don't" of the fashion and makeup world...Now it's my turn!

Below is about what is IN and what is OUT for this Spring 2012 season! Be ready!

IN
Dewy Skin -
Matte skin is out! Having that dewy look can be achieved with cream and liquid foundations. This doesn't mean you have to slather your face with clear lip gloss, it means add the proper amount of foundation plus a little shimmer or shine to highlight features you want to accentuate - such as your cheek bones! Vua-la!

OUT
Caked-On Makeup -
Never a "do"! Not in any circumstance or situation! Makeup that looks like it was applied by a Broadway theater makeup artist should not be worn on a daily basis, or ever - unless your on Broadway! Keep face makeup minimal, your motto should be "less is more". No matter what you are trying to cover on your skin, when you apply mounds of makeup, you are only making it worse. If you need to layer cosmetics, such as concealer, foundation and powder, apply lightly and blend well - brushes always work better than sponges or fingers - and much more sanitary!

IN
Sun Kissed Skin -
Giving yourself a sun kissed glow with bronzer is a do! Packing on the bronzer until you've turned yourself into an oopma loompa is a don't! Once you apply your foundation (which should match your skin tone correctly) you can then apply light bronzer over the face to give that glow that everyone wishes they had naturally! When it's not overdone, it's a flawless face finish!
*remember to wear blush with or without bronzer, you always want to show off those cheekbones*

OUT
Face Darker than Neck -
EEK! Not much to say about this! Oopma Loompa makeup is for Halloween only!
Just. Don't. Do. It.

IN
Neon/Bold Lips -
love. Love. LOVE. Once you find the perfect bright/bold/neon lipstick that works for you - your going to want to wear it every day! The perfect bright lip will boost your mood and your confidence, and pairing it with suble, simple face makeup, it works for day or night!

OUT
Dark Liner Nude Lipstick -
Another bad makeup idea. Whoever thought of this should be in jail! Just like the extremely bronzed face, this is a no-no!

IN
Subtle Highlights -
*sigh* So pretty! When you have subtle highlights, it instantly brightens up your face! It's a perfect change for your hair while not having to be crazy committed. Once you're bored, just color over 'em! If your hair is lighter, add subtle lowlights - this will make your natural color look like the highlight. There are so many fun ways to change your hair without having to do a drastic cut - just talk with your stylist!

OUT
Skunk-Like Streaks -
Um...yea...I don't know. =(

IN
Messy Loose Locks -
Many call this - bedhair. I call it - perfection! Throw your hair into braids before bed and either leave it, or run through it quickly with a curling iron in the morning. The braids help keep the top smooth while adding the waves towards the bottom. Add a little smoothing serum, to seal in the waves, and some hairspray and you are good to go!

OUT
Stiff Perfect Hair -
While certain stuff perfect hair is classicly chic - like the ballerina bun, but some hair styles are just too much. When your hair looks like it will break like a vase on a marble floor if you touch it, it's too much. Having touchable hair is sexy - and sexy is in!
