How To: Apply Faux Lashes - My First Video!

One of my most frequently asked questions is, "how can I apply false lashes on myself?" It is definitely an application that would need to be practiced if never done before. I also recommend that you have a professional apply them properly on you first, so you can get an idea of where they should be placed, how they feel once they are applied, the glue drying process, and how to finish off your look once they are dried and in place.

I apply lashes on Jene Luciani (National TV Lifestyle Correspondent, SHAPE MAGAZINE Contributor, & Author of The Bra Book, as well as my client and friend) each time I do her makeup. Sometimes they are more extravagant than others, but they always add that extra touch!

Instead of typing out the steps, we thought it would be fun to create this video to help you see the application process!!

Enjoy!

Summer Scents for the Senses

You can find makeup, hair, and style tips everywhere! But what if you are searching for a new fragrance?

You have your signature scent, that go-to scent that you always love (mine is: Santa Maria Novella in Mughetto - OBSESSED) - however, what about something to switch it up a little bit? For the summer most women tend to stick with light, clean scents; they aren't overpowering.

**Note**
Remember to try perfumes, just as if they were shoes.  The oils on your skin mixed with the oils in perfumes can make the scent change slightly once it's applied, making it not smell the same as when you spray it onto one of those paper-sticks the stores supply.
Ask for a sample to take home, wear it a few times and see how the smell settles with you throughout the day/night - you want to love it before purchasing!

1. Burberry Summer
(This is my "switch-it-up" scent) It's so fresh, so clean, so...summer! Perfect to spray on daily to give a hint of scent without overpowering the people around you.
This scent is a mix of orange, mandarin, and green leaf for a crisp scent. If you are thinking this may be girlie - it isn't!

2. Emilio Pucci Vivara Varianzioni Verde 072
Mint is all the rage in the summer! Cool mint ice cream, mint mojitos, what about a mix of mint into your scent? This perfume is a little bit softer than Burberry's. Turkish rose, neroli bigarade and mint leaves are mixed to create this subtle, summery scent.

3. Guerlain Aqua Allegora Jasminora
This scent is a little heavier than the previous two. Bergamot and white musk help balance the strong jasmine base. Still airy for summer, yet the white musk makes it less light than the other two. Still fantastic!

4. Tocca Graziella
This floral scent is light and perfect for the summer months. Asian Pear, Casablanca Lily and Creamy Iris are among some of the notes in this perfume. Mix those with Bitter Orange and it becomes a light balance for the senses.

For the Men in your life:

1. Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue

2. Giorgio Armani Acqua Di Gio

Both are great for summer, considering there are a good amount of men that don't wear cologne during the day, these are great for day and night.

They Say Hard Work Pays Off...and it did!

Hello Everyone! I am so sorry that I have been M.I.A. for almost a month, maybe longer - eek!

Exciting things have happened since I last posted - can't wait to share!

Thanks to all of you who voted for Best of Westchester, I am pleased to announce that I won for Wedding Makeup & Hair in the 'Reader's Choice' Category!
I cannot wait for the event on July 18th where all the "Bests" gather so the public mingle and network! Hard work really does pay off! Now time to work on a new goal...

Even though I may not have posted for a while, doesn't mean I haven't tried new products and new techniques. I am ready to share with all of you!

I have been lucky to meet Rachael Braunshweiger, who has connected with me the Rodan & Fields product line. Have you tried them? If not, get on it! They are a skin-care based line where they have regimen's for each type of skin. Dry, normal, oily, acne-prone, etc; there is a product for everyone, and everyone will be pleased with the outcome.

I have become familiar with two of their products so far, but am excited to try more!

In the meantime, I have also become more familiar with eyelash extensions - they are my new favorite accessory! My friend, and fellow makeup artist, Phyllis Juliano, is certified in applying them, and does the best job - they couldn't have come out better! No more fuss about curling & applying mascara, etc. Wake up, put the rest of your makeup on, and go!

(Yes, that is my scary face! LOL But the lashes look amazing!)

In addition to skincare and amazing lashes, I have also become obsessed with dry shampoo. Actually, I have been obsessed with dry shampoo for months, but now that I have come across Oribe's Dry Texturizing Spray, I have become an addict! This spray makes hair that has been washed 2-3 days prior, look healthy and clean. What is better than that? Now you can make your hair look like you just washed it, when it's days old - not great hygiene, but hey - using it once or twice a week won't kill ya!

5 Steps to Radiant Skin!

See photos in the magazine's, or people walking down the street, and think - how do they achieve that glow in their skin?

Well here you go!

Below are 5 steps to achieve great skin...

1. Stop taking long showers!!!
There is no need to take a 20-30 minute shower, are you that dirty?! Keep the shower to no more than 10 minutes with a warmer water, not super hot. Super hot water drys out your skin even more - not good!
Using a body wash and luffa will help exfoliate your skin gently, rather than harsh soap and a washcloth. Don't over scrub either, it can create flaking on the skin once you have dried off.

2. Keep yourself hydrated!!!
You are supposed to drink 8 8oz glasses of water a day - most people don't do that. But drinking as much as you can will definitely show through your skin. Coffee, tea, soda = caffeine, sugar and dehydration. You can have your coffee in the morning or iced tea with lunch, but try to stay away from soda's and drink water in between.
Note - it was also curb your apetite, stopping you from snacking as much throughout the day!

3. Get Sleep!!!
You may be able to function on 5 or 6 hours of sleep, but your body is slowing down on the inside. You need approx 7-8 hours of uninterrupted sleep daily (I usually need 10!) If you run your body down, your are more susceptible to getting sick. If you sleep 6 or so hours a few days in a row, try to go to bed earlier and get a few more hours once or twice a week. Your body will thank you.
Plus - tired, puffy, dark circles under your eyes are not attractive!

4. Omega-3 is now your new best friend!!!
There are so many vitamins out there, and depending on your age and gender, there are specific vitamins you should have in your daily diet. However, regardless of your age or gender, Omega-3 fatty acids has been tested and it was proved that it does reduce inflammation and aids your skin and body in retaining moisture, keeping you hydrated. It was also found that it helps in repairing cell damage, which is important for everyone as well! So pop some Omega-3 pills, or eat more salmon - either way you will be helping yourself in the long run!

5. Moisturize! Moisturize! Moisturize!
I don't care how much you are in a rush in the morning, you need to take 5 minutes to moisturizer your entire body. That dry flaky skin you hate? Those ashy knees or elbows? The itchy spots? They can all be eliminated if you use the correct moisturizer for your body, and do a rub-down daily. I personally love Eucerine Daily Replenish. It is more than enough hydration for dry skin, yet not too much for oily to normal skin. Use on your entire body except your face, that needs a more specific moisturizer for your skin needs!

5 Annoying Beauty Problems....Solved!

"What was I thinking?!"
"Ahh..what did I do?!"
"How did that happen?!"
Are these popular questions you tend to ask to yourself?

Here are some Oops! moments that can be fixed in 1-2-3!

1. You've over-tweezed your brows...

Were you trying to get those brows exactly how your brow specialist waxes them, but without having to pay the money to get them waxed..darn it! Time to fix!
Look in a mirror - and if you can't remember, grab a photo of when your brows looked fantastic to look at for reference - and outline with a soft brow pencil the shape you were going for. Yes you will be drawing on your skin, but we will blend this! Then fill in the areas where there are no hairs with the pencil or shadow. To avoid harsh lines from the pencil, take a brow brush, or a disposable mascara wand, to gently brush the product  through the hairs - blending them perfectly!
You will want to do this daily until they grow in how you want them.

2. You washed your face at night, but still have traces of makeup in the morning...

That means your cleanser alone isn't good enough. There are many formulas of cleanser, however you may need to use a makeup remover as well, especially around the eye area. Makeup removers are formulated to break up the makeup better than just soap alone. Using a toner to cleanse off your skin after you're done washing also helps, apply on a cotton ball and wipe around the skin - this will take off excess product that your cleanser missed.

3. You've used self-tanner, and now it's all over your bed sheets...

This is simple..don't use self-tanner too close to bedtime, and if you have too, or if you feel that it stains anyway, purchase a large powder brush and apply baby powder to the parts of your body you self-tanned. The powder will adhere to the tanner and make it less tacky, making it stay on your skin rather than transfer to your sheets or clothes.

4. You have acne on places other than your face....

There are a few tips to help this acne problem that leaves pimples on your body. You want to shower directly after working out, leaving sweat beads on your body for extended periods of time clogs pores and causes breakouts. You also want to wear looser clothes while working out, lets your skin breath. Using a body toner after cleansing will help with the breakouts.

5. Ingrown Hairs...down there....

Getting ready for a pool or beach party and notice some ingrown hairs? Using a cleanser or toner than has salicylic acid as an ingredient help unclog pores. You also want to shave in the direction of the hair in those areas, not against it. It will help lessen the amount of ingrown hairs that appear. Many have noticed that waxing, rather than shaving, helps with the ingrown hair problem. It may hurt, but you won't have as much maintenance and you will notice less pimples and ingrowns over time.

Product Review: La Bella Donna Baci Moisturizing Lip Sheer

Voted Best Colored Mineral Lip Gloss by New Beauty Magazine
And once you use it, you'll know why!

The color and texture are what a person wants in a lip gloss. Just enough color, great shine, but not too sticky - I hate when glosses are too sticky and your hair sticks to it in the wind, ugh what a mess! Since this product is also extremely conditioning - which I love since my lips are always dry - it has the benefits of a lip treatment.

The nifty "click" pen concept is used to push the color through the wand into the brush.  You click a few times, which should be enough product, and the color will come through into the brush applicator. You then glide directly onto the lips, where it will leave a nice mixture of color and shine.

With all the color choices (above), there is a perfect match for every skin tone for day or night!

What makes this product so lovable, I think, is that one of it's ingredients is Sodium Hyaluronate - which I have noticed not many lip glosses have. This ingredient creates a barrier that lets moisture lock into the lips, even if the color has faded and you haven't had a chance to reapply. Leaving them soft to the touch.
